Summer has come and gone, and now, you might be thinking of where you’d like to escape to this fall season. I know that’s where my brain’s been wandering.
Though those tropical cocktails (little umbrellas included) and sandy beaches might be calling, there are a handful of really fabulous and unique local hot spots that I’ve got my eye on checking out this fall and have secretly been keeping tabs on for a while. I love travelling and have been developing my own travel mantra over the years. I seem to be all about unique and boutique experiences that are just totally different than the ordinary and expected. This is especially true when I’m looking at accommodations.
For me, an accommodation is so much more than just a place sleep and can be just as memorable as a whole trip itself. There are a few mandatory boxes that must be ticked on my list in order for an accommodation to urge me to “book it now!”. Do they have… Comfy beds? Clean and cozy quarters? Character and appeal? Unique details that make it memorable? Appealing cost and/or value? Great location? “Cool” factor?
This week’s #My5FallFavs is a list of my 5 favourite unique weekend getaway spots to check out this fall and they each meet my criteria for cool. All special and unique in their own right, it’s worth putting these on your weekend get-away list, whether it be with your partner or your pals.
This vintage, mid-century modern motor lodge is the stuff girly dreams are made of. With their funky, eclectic interiors (a little mod, art deco, beachy and jungalow) and their love for great food, wine and good times, The June is no doubt, the hottest spot in PEC. If I visit and don’t come back, it’s because I’ve likely moved in here…
Escape to the Niagara region and stay in this quaint five-star country inn that’s got it all, including a 13,000 square foot spa, a Tuscan-style fine dining experience and a sophisticated wine bar and lounge for some R&R. Though it’s also a close walking distance to attractions in town, you really don’t have to leave. And why would you want to with all the amenities? However, the Wine Trolley tour looks totally fun and is a cool way to be escorted around to take in the surrounding sites or just for a romantic ride through the region.

Some of you design addicts might already know the famuous Lynne Knowlton, but if you don’t, she’s a designer, business coach and lifestyle blogger with wicked taste, and she’s built this ah-mazing treehouse and cabin retreat. Admit it, it’s dreamy and you want one of your own. The best news is that it’s for rent and YOU can stay there to experience it and all it’s magic!
Lynne’s built herself up on her motto, “Design The Life You Want To Live” and her blog is both refreshing and incredibly entertaining making her #onetofollow.
If your looking for something a little swanky in the city, this is the place to head to. Located in the city’s hip East-end, is this historical landmark that’s been around since 1891. You might recognize it as the former Jilly’s (a not-so-classy adult entertainment establishment), but it’s since been meticulously restored and redesigned into a 58-room boutique hotel with major appeal and character. During your stay, try and spot clever details from the building’s past that have been incorporated into the newly designed digs (hint: brass stripper poles in the guest rooms!).
One of my all time local fav’s but I sometimes feel like it’s hidden and forgotten about because if it’s location. It is totally worth the trip! A traditional and charming estate tucked away in the country side, you can go for the day or enduldge for a weekend. The grounds are immaculate, the food is extraordinary and the spa is absolute serenity. Gluten free friends take note: they have the best fresh-made gluten free bread in the kitchen – don’t miss out!
So whether you want to explore the vineyards, sip and savour during high tea, paint the town or want to sneak away to a peaceful cabin amidst the trees, have some fun exploring some cool locales this fall. If you stumble upon a unique place, we’d all certainly love to hear about it.
